NFDC and Netflix launched “The Voicebox” Upskilling Program

  • National Film Development Corporation and Netflix India have partnered to launch “The Voicebox”, an upskilling program for voice-over artists in multiple Indian languages, focusing on training in seven major cities.
  • Open to professionals with over 2 years of experience in media, targeting at least 50% women, and top performers contributing to Netflix’s “Azaadi ki Amrit Kahaniya” project.

BBVA Colombia and IFC launched 'world's first' biodiversity bond

  • BBVA, a Spanish multinational financial services company and  International Finance Corporation, a member of World Bank Group, issued a US$15 million first tranche of a US$70 million biodiversity bond to finance reforestation, regenerative agriculture, and wildlife habitat restoration projects.
  • They aim to establish eligibility criteria and reporting indicators for biodiversity protection.

  • The book narrates her global adventures, including trekking across a ‘black glacier’ in Norway, facing a thundercloud in Sweden, and being welcomed by penguins in Antarctica.

  • Suryakumar Yadav is appointed captain for the T20 International series against Sri Lanka with Shubman Gill as vice-captain.

  • Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI squad, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain.
  • Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play together after retiring from T20Is.

New species of Dogfish Shark discovered by Zoological Survey of India

  • Scientists from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have discovered a new species of deep-water dogfish shark named Squalus hima from the Sakthikulangara fishing harbour in Kerala.
  • Sharks from the genus Squalus are exploited for their liver oil, high in squalene, used in pharmaceutical industries for cosmetics and anti-cancer products

India saw fastest growth in electronic waste generation: UNCTAD report

  • India experienced a 163% surge in electronic waste generation from 2010 to 2022, now contributing 6.4% of global SCSIT (screens, computers, and small IT and telecommunication equipment) waste, up from 3.1% in 2010.
  • The UNCTAD report  The ‘2024 Digital Economy Report: Shaping an environmentally sustainable and inclusive digital future’ highlights the environmental hazards of e-waste.
