The Congress-ruled government in Himachal Pradesh, taking a leaf out of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government’s book in Uttar Pradesh, has mandated street vendors in the State, especially food eateries, to display their identity cards.

Delhi govt. revises minimum monthly wages for workers

In her first decision after assuming charge as Chief Minister, Atishi on Wednesday announced a hike in minimum monthly wages for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers.
“The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for the past 10 years has been giving a better life to common people and in the next four months too, we will continue to work for this,” she told mediapersons, adding that a notification regarding the wage hike will be issued soon.

A historic election in Sri Lanka

For the first time since 1978, in presidential elections in Sri Lanka, no candidate won more than 50% of the total votes in the first round of counting. Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), put up under the banner of the National People’s Power (NPP), obtained 42.31%. He was declared the winner after the second count, which tallied voters’ second and third choice candidates. This too was historic: no election in Sri Lanka has ever progressed to the second round of counting.

How global warming affects forecasting

Meteorologists predicted the 2023 El Niño as early as in the spring of that year, which is remarkable. But the level of warming during 2023-2024 has caught them, and the public, by surprise because it was much higher than expected from the addition of the so-called mini-global warming by the El Niño to the ongoing background warming.

According to some estimates, the world has already crossed the 1.5º C warming threshold (that is, the earth’s average surface temperature has increased by more than 1.5º C over the pre-industrial average).

Mahindra prices Thar Roxx 4×4 from ₹18.79 lakh

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. on Wednesday said that the introductory price for the 4×4 variants of the Thar Roxx would start from ₹18.79lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end variant has been priced at ₹22.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the company said. Thar Roxx, powered by a 2.2L mHawk diesel engine, comes in two power configurations. The 4×4 MT option delivers 111.9 kW and 330 Nm of torque, while the 4×4 AT boasts 128.6 kW and 370 Nm of torque.
