India, China to undertake ‘coordinated patrolling’

  • India and China would undertake “coordinated patrolling” in Depsang and Demchok along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh to avoid face-offs, once the patrols resume by the “month-end”, Army sources said. They added that disengagement was expected to be completed by October 29.
  • As per official sources, it was also agreed that Chinese patrols would be allowed in Yangste, Arunachal Pradesh, “as before and not be blocked”.
  • Army sources said the disengagement, which commenced on Tuesday, was expected to be completed by October 29, with a return to the pre-April 2020 situation, and patrols resuming after that. “A general framework agreement was concluded first at the diplomatic level and subsequently, a detailed agreement outlining the modalities of disengagement as well the patrolling was concluded at the Corps Commander level on Monday,” the sources said on Friday.

PM raises Ukraine, Gaza conflicts in meet with German Chancellor

In a first in Capital, govt. conducts pilot study using drones to monitor bad air

  • Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Friday supervised a pilot project, the first of its kind in the Capital, to study air pollution using drones.
  • Deployment of drones to monitor 13 pollution hotspots is part of a 21-point Winter Action Plan Mr. Rai announced last month to check air pollution in the Capital.
  • The air quality in Delhi plummets drastically every winter due to farm fires in neighbouring States, construction activities, vehicular pollution, and various meteorological factors.

Varanasi court rejects plea for additional ASI survey of entire Gyanvapi Mosque premises

  • A Varanasi court on Friday rejected the plea filed by Hindu petitioners seeking additional survey by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of the entire premises of the Gyanvapi complex.
  • Civil Judge (Senior Division), Varanasi Fast Track Court, Yugal Sharma dismissed the plea filed in February in addition to the main 1991 suit concerning the Gyanvapi Mosque-Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The court said that the report of the ASI survey done on plot number 9130 last year, where the mosque stands, is yet to be examined. It added that the Supreme Court has protected the structure where the ‘Shiva Linga’ is stated to have been found on the mosque premises.

Membership drive takes BJP past 10-crore mark
