356 killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon
- Israeli air strikes killed at least 356 people and left over 1,200 injured in Lebanon on Monday, the Lebanese government said, in the deadliest cross-border escalation since the Gaza war erupted. Health Minister Firass Abiad said “thousands of families” had been displaced.
- Israel said it hit about 1,300 Hezbollah sites in southern and eastern Lebanon in 24 hours, including a “targeted strike” in Beirut. A source close to Hezbollah said the strike in the Lebanese capital targeted Ali Karake, the group’s third-in-command.

Atishi takes charge, sits next to empty chair used by former CM Kejriwal
- Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Monday assumed charge as Delhi Chief Minister but sat next to an empty chair used by her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal, saying she would work like Bharat, who had ruled Ayodhya by placing Lord Ram’s wooden sandals on the throne.
- Ms. Atishi occupied a white chair placed next to the red one used by the former CM as she drew a parallel with the Ramayana chapter in which Bharat refuses to sit on the Ayodhya throne when his elder brother Lord Ram goes into exile.
BJP launches public outreach drive ahead of Assembly session
- The Delhi BJP on Monday launched a three-day public outreach campaign to take stock of people’s issues, which the party promised to raise vociferously during the two-day Assembly session beginning on September 26.
- The BJP said it will also highlight the issues raised by people during the ‘Janta ka Mudda Assembly Mein’ in its campaign for the upcoming Assembly election.
- Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the drive will continue till September 25, under which residents will be asked to fill “complaint forms” mentioning the problems they face.
Amit Shah rakes up 1984 anti-Sikh riots to target Congress in Haryana
- In the run-up to the Assembly election in Haryana, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday raked up the 1984 anti-Sikh riots to target the Congress, asking Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to seek an apology from Sikhs.
- At the party’s election rally in Haryana’s Tohana, Mr. Shah alleged that the Congress has a long history of insulting Sikhs. He also accused the Congress of being “anti-Dalit” as well. “Haryana is a State connected to Punjab, and Sikh Gurus are respected and worshipped in every household here.
Reform of global institutions must for development: Modi
- Speaking at the two-day United Nations ‘Summit of the Future’ conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said global peace was contingent on the reform of global institutions.
- “The success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not in the battlefield,” Mr. Modi said.
- “And for global peace and development, reforms in global institutions are essential,” he said, adding that reform was the key to relevance.
