India, China reach deal on easing LAC tensions
- India and China have reached an agreement on the “patrolling arrangements” and the resolution of the military stand-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the Union government announced on Monday, in a breakthrough that officials told The Hindu include the remaining friction points of Demchok and Depsang.
- The announcement by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri came during a press briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia for the BRICS summit on Tuesday. Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to attend the event.

Aspirants protest over UPPSC exam, slam panel for failing to take action
- Hundreds of aspirants on Monday protested outside the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) office in Prayagraj demanding conduct of the coming Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) and UPPSC examination in a single shift.
- Aspirants alleged that the Commission wanted to conduct the examination in multiple shifts to hide its failures. They said that normalisation of marks would be done in case of multiple shifts, resulting in increased or decreased marks for candidates appearing in a specific shift, which was “unfair” and harmed the interests of other candidates.

14 farmers held in Haryana’s Kaithal for stubble burning
- Fourteen farmers were arrested in Haryana’s Kaithal district over the past few days for burning stubble in their fields, a police officer said on Monday, as pollution levels in the region, including the National Capital, soar. Cases have been lodged under the provisions of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and other relevant provisions of the law for burning stubble, Kaithal Deputy Superintendent of Police Birbhan said.

Day after issuing its first list, BJP seeks manifesto suggestions from people
- A day after declaring 99 candidates in its first list for Maharashtra including Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and State unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the BJP on Monday invited developmental suggestions from various sections of society for incorporating them in the manifesto for the November 20 Assembly election.
- The draft plan for the “inclusive and dynamic” development of Maharashtra will be included in the manifesto.
- The party, part of the ruling Mahayuti government, has appealed to social workers, farmers, journalists, doctors, professors, teachers, engineers, businessmen, technicians, women activists and others to submit their suggestions, its poll manifesto committee president Sudhir Mungantiwar said on Monday.
Canadian education visas used to send people ‘illegally’ to the U.S., say Indian agencies
- Barely metres from the U.S. border, four members of a family from Gujarat froze to death in the Manitoba province of Canada on January 19, 2022, while attempting to cross over to the other side on foot. The deaths triggered investigations by the Indian agencies that have unveiled the modus operandi of education visas being used to first facilitate the travel of individuals to Canada and then to the U.S. using illegal means.
- The bodies of Jagdish Patel (39), his wife Vaishali (37), their daughter Vihangi (11), and son Dharmik (3) were recovered, whereas seven others accompanying them were arrested by the U.S. border patrol police.
