HC grants temporary relief to Siddaramaiah

  • In a temporary relief to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Karnataka High Court on Monday ordered a special court in Bengaluru to defer further proceedings on complaints related to alleged irregularities in the allotment of sites by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) till August 29.
  • The special court shall not precipitate a complaint related to the sanctions granted by the Governor against Mr. Siddaramaiah till further orders, the High Court said. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the interim order on a petition filed by Mr. Siddaramaiah.
  • In his petition, the Chief Minister questioned the legality of the sanction granted by the Governor permitting investigation against him under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and prosecution under Section 218 of theBharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

Protesting medicos offer consultations near Nirman Bhawan

  • Patients lined up outside the Union Ministry of Health office at Nirman Bhawan on Monday as resident doctors offered consultations as part of their protest against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee medico at State-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
  • However, the doctors refused to get back to work, saying their demands had not been fulfilled, crippling outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective services at major private and government hospitals in the Capital for the eighth straight day.
  • The resident doctors are demanding a Central legislation to protect them against violence and exemplary punishment for the accused in the Kolkata rape and murder case.

Yamuna waters to reach Shekhawati soon: Rajasthan CM

  • The Yamuna river water is expected to arrive soon in Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region following an agreement signed recently with the Haryana government for ensuring the supply of the State’s entire share of water as per the 1994 Yamuna Water Agreement. The availability of water will resolve the issue of shortage of drinking and irrigation water in the four districts of Shekhawati region.
  • Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said during his visit to Sikar on Sunday that the agreement signed with Haryana in February this year was one of the major achievements of his government. The Shekhawati region, situated at the edge of Thar desert, has been facing water scarcity since long.

CRPF officer killed in clash with terrorists in Udhampur

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer was killed in a brief exchange of fire between terrorists and a patrol team in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

A police spokesperson said it was during an area domination patrol at Chill that an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and joint parties of the J&K Police and the CRPF.

“In the encounter, one inspector of CRPF suffered bullet injuries and has attained martyrdom. The operation continues,” the spokesperson said.

The deceased CRPF officer was identified as Kuldeep Singh. His mortal remains were being brought to the district headquarters for post-mortem examination.
