T.N. govt. rescues 30 pilgrims from landslip-hit Uttarakhand

  • At least 30 pilgrims from Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, who were stranded following landslips in Uttarakhand, were rescued on Sunday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin monitored the rescue operation and spoke to a few of the pilgrims over the phone.
  • As per the information provided by the Uttarakhand government on Sunday evening, the rescued persons from Tamil Nadu were moved to Dharchula by helicopter in the morning, the Tamil Nadu government said in a press release. “Once they reach New Delhi from Dharchula, they would return to Tamil Nadu,” it added.
  • The rescued pilgrims are expected to return to Chennai by flight on Monday morning.

Dhankhar targets Rahul over quota; Congress hits back

  • In an apparent attack on Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on reservation, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday said such comments by a person holding a constitutional post showed an “anti-Constitution mindset”.
  • “A person holding a constitutional post travels to foreign countries and says, ‘Reservation must end’. Look at the baton of prejudice against reservation handed over to them,” Mr. Dhankhar said at an event in Mumbai.
