Two ‘aides’ of Nijjar’s Canada accomplice arrested in Punjab

  • Amid unconfirmed reports that Arshdeep Singh Gill, alias Arsh Dalla, a close accomplice of murdered Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was arrested by the Canadian Police in Ontario, his two alleged aides were arrested in Punjab on Sunday for the killing of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau in Faridkot last month.
  • Punjab Police said the arrest of Anmolpreet Singh, alias Vishal, a resident of Barnala, and Navjot Singh, alias Neetu, from Kharar had thwarted at least four more possible target killings, and solved three sensational crimes, including a murder in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The police arrested their accomplice, Balvir Singh, who is Mr. Navjot’s brother, on the charge of aiding and abetting the crimes.

Soldier killed, three injured in gunfight with militants in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar

  • A soldier was killed and three were injured as security forces encircled and engaged a group of hiding militants in Kishtwar area of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
  • In another operation, security forces tracked another group of militants in the Zabarwan forest close to Srinagar city.
  • The Army said a joint operation was launched by security forces in the Bhart Ridge forest area of Kishtwar following a tip-off about the presence of militants. The hiding militants were encircled and engaged in a fierce gunfight.

Main shooter, 2 others held in Baba Siddique murder case

The Mumbai police on Sunday said they have arrested the main shooter, Shivakumar, and two others from Uttar Pradesh in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddique. They were arrested in a joint operation with the STF of U.P. Police, an officer said. The three are being brought to Mumbai, he added. Siddique was shot dead on October 12 by three assailants outside his son MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office building in Bandra East. He sustained two bullet injuries on his chest and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he passed away. PTI

Wind blowing in favour of BJP in Jharkhand, says PM

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed two public meetings at Bokaro and Gumla in Jharkhand. This was his second visit to the State in a week and ahead of the first phase of the Assembly election on November 13.
  • Mr. Modi accused the Hemant Soren-led government of selling the rivers and mountains of the State. He said the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress took bribes for granting even birth and death certificates. He said a strong wind was blowing in favour of the BJP in the State.
  • In Bokaro district, Mr. Modi campaigned for Amar Kumar Bauri, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, who is contesting from Chandankiyari constituency.

Dozens killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon and north Gaza

  • Israeli strikes killed dozens of people including children on Sunday in Lebanon and northern Gaza, where the military has waged a major offensive for more than a month that aid groups say has worsened the humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
  • The Israeli air strike in Lebanon killed at least 23 people including seven children in Aalmat village north of Beirut, far from the areas in the east and south where Hezbollah militants have a major presence. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said another six persons were wounded. There was no immediate Israeli comment.
  • In northern Gaza, an Israeli strike on a home sheltering displaced people in the urban refugee camp of Jabaliya killed at least 17 people including nine women, according to Dr. Fadel Naim, director of Al-Ahly Hospital in Gaza City.
