With Maldives facing a forex crunch, India gives $750-mn currency swap arrangement
- India signed a major currency swap agreement with the Maldives for $750 million to help the island nation tide over its current foreign currency crunch, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in New Delhi on Monday.
- The swap arrangement for $400 million and an additional ₹3,000 crore ($357 million), signed between the Reserve Bank of India and the Maldives Monetary Authority under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Currency Swap Framework, will be available until 2027.

Govt. will resume stalled welfare works in Capital, says ex-CM flanked by CM
- After assuming charge as Delhi Chief Minister, Atishi on Monday held her first joint press conference with her predecessor and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, who promised to resume all “stalled” projects and complete road repair works before the Assembly poll in February next year.
- Mr. Kejriwal also accused the BJP of plotting to “stall” development projects and said once re-elected, the AAP government will launch new initiatives.

Tamil Nadu CM announces ₹5 lakh solatium to kin of air show victims
- A day after five persons, who visited the air show organised by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Marina beach in Chennai, died due to heat-related exhaustion, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condoled the deaths and announced a solatium of ₹5 lakh to the families of each of the deceased.
- “I am pained to learn that five precious human lives were lost due to extreme heat and other medical reasons. This is an irreparable and huge loss to the families of the deceased. I extend my deep condolences to them. I have directed the grant of solatium of ₹5 lakh to the families of each of the deceased,” he said.
Global body suspends Delhi zoo membership over welfare of elephant
- World Association of Zoo and Aquarium, a global alliance, on Monday suspended the membership of Delhi’s National Zoological Park for six months, over concerns related to the welfare of an African elephant, Shankar, who has been kept chained in his enclosure.
- The CEO of WAZA had visited the zoo and met officials of the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), a statutory body of the Government of India, and had raised concerns about the mistreatment of animals, Sanjay Shukla, member secretary of the CZA, told The Hindu.
DGCA bans some B-737s on low-visibility landing routes
- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has asked operators of Boeing 737 aircraft with a specific rudder part not to use the jets for low-visibility landings owing to a “possible risk of jamming”. The directive is based on a loss-of-control incident involving a United Airlines flight in New Jersey, U.S., in February.
- The advisory, which comes ahead of the fog season, is effective for Boeing 737 NG and MAX models, a senior DGCA official said.
