Modi seeks to script Singapore-like success stories as India inks key MoUs

  • Singapore is an important part of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and India wishes to create many Singapore-like success stories in its territory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.
  • Apart from meeting his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, Mr. Modi oversaw the signing of key MoUs, including one on semiconductors that will help in supply chain resilience for semiconductors.
  • He also announced that the first Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre of India (named after the Tamil poet-philosopher) will soon open in Singapore as the two sides plan to celebrate the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties next year.

Over 30 teachers detained during march against NEP

  • Over 30 teachers were detained from Mandi House after the Delhi police halted a march called by three teachers’ associations to protest against the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, on Teachers’ Day.
  • The march was organised by the All India Federation of University & College Teachers’ Organisations, Joint Forum for Movement on Education (JFME) and Federation of Central Universities Teachers’ Associations (FEDCUTA).
  • “On the day the nation observes Teachers’ Day, senior teachers and students were forcibly detained by the police in order to prevent the march against NEP 2020 and its destructive impact on education,” read a statement by JFME chairperson Nandita Narain and FEDCUTA president Moushumi Das.

Coffee-table book tracing ISRO’s achievements launched

  • Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman S. Somanath on Thursday released a coffee-table book brought out by The Hindu Group of Publications, ISRO: Exploring New Frontiers – To The Moon, The Sun & Beyond.
  • The book curated by T.S. Subramanian, former Associate Editor, Frontline, documents the achievements of India as a space faring nation in detail, from its nascent days in the 1960s to recent programmes like the Mars Orbiter Mission, Chandrayaan-1, 2 and 3, and the Aditya L-1 missions.
  • The book documents these missions with insightful behind-the-scenes stories, interviews and spectacular photographs of India’s space journey.

Besides former Sports Minister and Pehowa MLA Sandeep Singh, who is facing charges of sexual harassment, the party also dropped its MLAs from Gurgaon, Sohna, Bawani Khera, Ratia, Ateli, Faridabad, and Palwal.
