After studying law in London, Gandhi spent 21 years in South Africa, where he developed his philosophy of non-violent resistance known as Satyagraha. This approach was first used to fight racial discrimination there​.

Iran fires missiles at Israel, warns against retaliation

  • Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel’s campaign against Tehran’s Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.
  • Alarms sounded across Israel and explosions could be heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River Valley after Israelis piled into bomb shelters. Reporters on state television lay flat on the ground during live broadcasts.
  • Reuters journalists saw missiles intercepted in the airspace of neighbouring Jordan. Israeli military said Iran fired around 180 missiles. “IDF (Israeli Army) systems have identified approximately 180 missiles fired towards Israeli territory from Iran,” it said.

  • In his fourth and last election rally in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the only agenda of the Congress was “appeasement for votes”, and called upon all those “who love India” to stay united and vote for the country, and for the future of their children.
  • Addressing the “Jan Aashirwad Rally” in south Haryana’s Palwal district, Mr. Modi said “Mahatama Gandhi experimented with truth, but these people from the Congress experimented with lies”, adding that the Congress leaders, in closed doors, made plans to divide the Bharatiya Janata Party supporters, who, he said, were all “desh bhakhts [patriots]”.

Officials hold inquiry at Isha Yoga Center after Madras HC directive

  • Police personnel and officials of Tamil Nadu’s Social Welfare Department conducted an inquiry at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on Tuesday, a day after the Madras High Court directed the police to submit a status report on the allegations raised by a petitioner against the Isha Foundation.
  • District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan, District Social Welfare Officer R. Ambika, and members of the District Child Protection Unit and District Child Welfare Committee visited the Center for inquiry, which began around 10 a.m. and continued till late in the night.

ISRO targets to launch Venus mission in March 2028 for 112-day journey to planet

  • India’s maiden mission to Venus, which is scheduled for launch in March 2028, will embark on a 112-day journey to reach the planet. The ₹1,236-crore Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM) was recently approved by the Union Cabinet and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Tuesday revealed the targeted launch window for the mission.
  • According to the targeted launch window for VOM, the Earth departure date is scheduled on March 29, 2028, and the arrival date on Venus is July 19, 2028. VOM will be launched by the Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM-3).

Torching Dalit homes is a recurring crime in Bihar

  • A fortnight ago, an alleged land mafia in Nawada district attacked and set fire to a Dalit hamlet and more than 30 houses in Bihar. All the houses that were set on fire belonged to people from Scheduled Castes (SC). Cases have been filed under various sections of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and other relevant laws.
  • According to police investigation, 21 houses were completely burnt. They belonged to SCs from the Manjhi and Ravidas communities. Reports also said that the fire destroyed the utensils, clothes, cots, grains and, in some cases, farm animals of the majority of the households. The government has provided food and temporary shelter for the victims.
